The Turner Prize list is out. Simeon Barclay. Kira Freije. Marguerite Humeau. Tanoa Sasraku. They pushed the whole thing up north to MIMA in Middlesbrough this time around. London pretends this matters. It really doesn’t.
Humeau is messing around with strange biological sculptures again. Sasraku is ripping up earth and paper. It is all perfectly fine. Extremely safe. We used to get angry about this prize. People used to throw things over unmade beds and dead cows. Now? Now we just nod at the nice paper structures.
Nobody is getting angry anymore. We are all just incredibly tired. The winner gets announced in December. Someone will hand over a cheque. Everyone will clap politely. Nothing will change.
