Julio Le Parc opens at the Tate Modern this June. “Light. Colour. Action.” It is basically kinetic art from the sixties trying to punch you in the eyes.
Mirrors spin. Lights flash. The whole room vibrates.
Right now, every other gallery in London is doing quiet, depressing trauma dumps. Walking into a massive concrete room where a ninety-something Argentine guy just wants to play with blinding lightbulbs feels surprisingly great. Loud. Unapologetic. Fun. It doesn’t ask you to feel guilty about anything. It just asks you to look at the pretty colours moving fast. Sometimes that is entirely enough.
